The Root of Liberty

Americans have slowly been misled to a place where most no longer understand the proper role of government or the importance of their own personal liberty. This misrepresentation of the American form of government has led to political ambiguity as citizens no longer know what to debate. Instead of first arguing if the government CAN enact a policy or law, the argument tends to be if the government SHOULD. Avoiding the first argument altogether assumes any action by the government is OK, as long as there is some argued benefit for the whole as a result of that action. This of course ignores the Constitutionality of policies and laws. More important, it also neglects any loss of individual liberty in the process.

The goal of the UniversityofCommonSense.org is to help visitors understand fundamental founding principles and shed light on some important topics and issues from a true Constitutional perspective. We have chosen video to be the primary medium to convey the information.

Something Is Terribly Wrong

The US Federal Government now owns 61% of General Motors, 70% of the secondary mortgage market through FNMA and FHLMC, the largest insurance corporation (AIG) and now we face the possible take over of our health care system which is roughly 20% of our nation’s GDP.The US Dollar has lost 96% of its value in the past 100 years. Estimated deficit spending is a staggering $1.6 Trillion for the year 2009. The US is $12 Trillion in debt according to “stated liabilities”. However, if all other unfunded obligations to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and other entitlement programs are included as they should; the actual total outstanding US Federal debt and unfunded liabilities total over $100 Trillion ($340,000+ per citizen) and counting. The value of the dollar is in great danger and we have run out of money.

IOUSA- True Debt

These problems were not just created by the current Administration or the past few Administrations. America has been on this path for most of the past century and politicians have made promises to cut the deficit and reduce the size of government without much success, while others have boldly made plans to expand them.Many Americans have not realized the erosion of personal liberty and the complete disregard for the Constitution; or identified this erosion as the main cause of destruction to our country and economic stability. However, once you recognize the origins of America’s liberty and the philosophy that our nation was founded on; you begin to realize how much the Federal Government has over stepped its Constitutional boundaries and the importance of searching for representatives that truly stand for individual liberty, property rights, state’s rights, gun rights, freedom of commerce and markets, anti-imperialism, limited powers of the Federal Government and the Constitution.

An Educated Citizenry

We have slowly lost our Republic and Constitution over the past 100 years due to complacency and a lack of education. Many Americans have a sense that something is wrong, however, they cannot quite put their finger on it. The question comes up, how did we get here? Those that see these problems are going to begin to ask for REAL change, especially if the situation worsens. Politicians will emerge and “claim” to fill the void left by the parties as many politicians have embraced bigger government and failed policy.

Many of us are too busy with our own lives (understandably so) to really know or pay attention to what is happening around us or try to figure out how we got here. However, we need to know, so that when we ask for change, we know what to ask for and more importantly, who to vote for to appropriately stand for true Constitutional Liberty.

Fortunately, the University of Common Sense makes it easy for anyone to catch up on the information needed to help make sense of the current and ongoing problems in America. We have chosen video as the primary format to convey the information, because we find it to be a more accessible medium for a general audience by being both entertaining and informative.
